Warner Ithier-Guzman

Born and raised in Puerto Rico, I graduated from a rural high school and attended the Inter-American University (IAU) at San German, Puerto Rico, receiving a Bachelor’s degree from the Department of Biology as a McNair Scholar. Then, I obtained a Master’s degree from the IAU-Metro Campus in Environmental Protection and Evaluation. In August 2010, I obtained a PhD in Chemical Oceanography from the University of South Florida (USF). My dissertation focused on the transport of radionuclide and heavy metals in sediments, and was sponsored by the National Science Foundation and the USF International Travel Grants.

Currently, as a postdoctoral fellow, I work in the recruitment and training of underrepresented minorities for programs funded by NASA and NSF. In addition, I teach a graduate level course on Environmental Science at the IAU-San German Campus. Eventually, I would like to pursue a career as a faculty member in a research institution, in accordance with my desire to contribute to society by mentoring and training the next generation of scientists, especially those from underrepresented groups. But in the mean time I enjoy taking pictures and traveling around the world in the search of the perfect picture!
