What compels me to create? a strong desire to create a visual vocabulary by which I can communicate my inner torment, my desires, my dreams, my longings to understand my self and make a sense of my existence. I honestly feel that I have no control over my creative process, rather it takes control of me and I just follow suit. It’s exhilarating and scary at the same time.
My creative process works in reverse…instead of starting with an idea I look for images already existent in our daily life and through my craft reveal the true message of the image. I feel like a sculptor who starts with a big chunk of rock and does not know what the final result will be. He keeps on chipping away till the true image comes out. I find this process truly challenging but extremely fulfilling. The omnipresent uncertainty fuels my creative process.
A camera is just another medium of expression. To me it is just another brush, crayon or a sculptor’s tool. What ever I learned about photography was through painting, sculpting, drawing and sketching.
My images try to make the inanimate objects talk. The lack of living creatures in most of my work is on purpose. I believe that human presence leaves a profound impact on all the inanimate objects around us. All the memories of our past are engrained in our surroundings. They are impregnated in the places we lived, worked & died. I try to decipher and capture the past and in the process tell a story that my audience can really connect…… through a single image.
