Resolutions, diets, gym plans all fail under the allure of the festival of Diwali. Ghee, sugar, besan, maida, milk, oil and other stuff usually avoided or taken in moderation take grip of your life. It is time to indulge, to belch to burp, to munch to slurp and consume rich food which one usually refrains from. That extra ladoo after satiation, that last gulp of barfi before passing out, that's what Diwali is all about for most of us.

Mobile photography is picking up pace like never before. There are entire sites dedicated to snaps taken using a smartphone. These pictures are of an overall passable quality, saturation, white balance and fuzziness yet their popularity many a times far exceeds those taken using a DSLR. Why is that? Perhaps because camera phones provide spontaneous captures by people with absolutely no professional photographic experience. Although the joy of using a fully formed camera and taking crystal clear photos remains unparalleled, one can find happiness in occasional phone clicks.

The Call of Bengal

I have never had Bengali food in my life, except the occasional rasgulla, sandesh, mishti dai, chum chum or other Bengali sweets. Nothing savory at least. That was until today when I explored the food of Bengal with members of the Hyderabad Foodies club (most of those who were in attendance were Bengalis) at the Call of Bengal. The restaurant it self is part of a food court here at Madhapur in Hyderabad and doesn't overflow with ambiance, provided a great and tasty lunch. Follow me dish by dish into food that was familiar yet somehow a new experience.
