Organic pieces of art

This story is about a chainsaw woodcarver I met at a fair and that I was really impressed with how he master his craft and his numerous chainsaws (I recall 8 differents chainsaws at least)

Eagle neck

here we see him using the mid range chainsaw to get a broad range of wood pieces out.

giving expression

by carving a bit more in the eyes, he gives the eagle a real expression. That takes a long time observing the subject to get it done almost eyes closed and only by memory without model or pictures

actually in this part he was using one of the smaller chainsaws to get finer detailing work done. You gotta understand that this require to master a tool that is really noisy and that really want to chip in your stuff ...

Eagle pride

here we can peak the work and the details already done on the head, the feathering work came at the end of the process

Here we are in the last 15 minutes, starting to get out a big chunk to make the detail of the tail feathers

almost finished

the big job is done, getting a precise shape to the wood, now that the bird is clearly identifiable he is going into the details like making feathers and the eyes, etc.
