Where do I begin??? Well I had a couple of point a shoot cameras and as a Christmas present my wife got me a photography lesson and the bloke turned up and took one look at me camera and said "I can't teach you much with that!" So, a short time later I was the proud owner of a Nikon D90. For once I actually used a "gadget" to its full potential and 3 years later bought a D700. Thanks for all the inspiration and one day I might shoot as good as some of you!

So 6 months ago, my wife and I were lucky enough to have this little gem. He truly is a glorious wee lad and I'm amazed how much he's growing. This shot was taken at 4 months old!!!! Anyway, I would normally keep pictures of my kid offline but with this shot I couldn't resist.

Krispy Kreme

Published March 19th, 2013

So I don't know if any of you who live in the area have noticed the massive queues that have been forming around the Hermiston Gait roundabout at the end of the M8? There have been many a quizzical look on the faces of the drivers who have no idea what's causing the traffic jams. Well here is the answer...it's the new Krispy Kreme that's opened in Edinburgh. As far as I'm aware it's the only one in Scotland and it seems that everyone in the country is trying to get into it. It's a bit like those scenes from the 80's when McDonalds opened for the first time in Moscow.

Luckily, thanks to the snow, there was no queue today so I ventured in for the first time and bought an "assorted dozen" box. I don't think it's going to last very long!

Orkney

Published November 14th, 2012

I recently had the change to visit the northern Scottish islands of Orkney. It was a fascinating place to see with lots of ancient history as well as modern day stuff like World War II. I totally recommend it. Here are some of my pictures. Enjoy.

Some more P/P

Published August 15th, 2012

I'm still working hard to come up with some new results with my photos. The 500px community aren't very chatty about how they work their magic but I'm keen to try and develop a style of my own - which is of course influenced by everyone else's great photos. Cheers for the inspiration.

Post processing

Published August 8th, 2012

So recently, I've been trying to do something a bit different with my photos. It's really hard to distinguish yourself from all the other incredible photographers out there (you know who you are). So what are my options?

1. Get better at photography - well, I'm trying

2. Get better equipment - do I really need to do this? Think what I've good should suffice.

3. Learn to process my pictures better - a steep learning curve which I'm currently at the bottom of.

So these shots are far too over-processed but I like that they are different from most of the things I've done in the past. Also I've really gone off the HDR thing and this allows a bridge to that without all the effort.
